The Tomsk Technology Park

In 2005 the Tomsk region was awarded the right to create a special economic zone for the promotion of technology (Tomsk Technology Park).

The areas to be developed include the technology of new materials and nanotechnology, biotechnology and medical technology, IT, production techniques and electronic items.

There will be a favourable tax regime within the technology park.

Infrastructure within the technology park will be built out on two sites: in Akademgorodok (south site) and on the territory of Tomskneftekhnim (north site).

Transportation infrastructure will also be built: an international terminal will be added to the Tomsk airport, the landing strip will be modernised and a new high-speed highway from the airport to the Akademgorodok will be built.

A committee has been formed within the Tomsk regional government dedicated to the technology park, and a Federal agency has been created to deal with the governance of the Tomsk technology park.

Technology parks have been created in 4 regions in Russia: Moscow (Zelenograd), Moscow Region (Dubna), St Petersburg and the Tomsk Region (Tomsk).
